Bronx Street Corner Renamed For Fallen Police Officer

A street corner in the Bronx area of New York City has been renamed in honor of a police officer who was killed by friendly fire.

Webster Avenue and East Mosholu Parkway North has now been renamed “Police Officer Eric Hernandez Memorial Corner”. The new street sign is located right across from the 52nd Police Precinct where Hernandez was assigned.

Officer Hernandez pulled his gun during an altercation in 2006 when he was off-duty and in plain clothes. He was then shot to death by another officer.

Hernandez’s family and friends lobbied for the sign, which was recently approved by the City Council.
